Burford Ancestors - Generation 5 - Lora Frances Walters

Lora Frances Walters was born 06 September 1923 in Hunter, Woodruff County, Arkansas. 

Frances was the daughter of Helen Burford and Sherman Walters.



Frances married Louis Marvin Frazier, Jr. 02 April 1944 in Washington, D.C., Mt. Vernon Methodist Church.  He was born 06 November 1921 in Parkin, Arkansas. 

Children of Frances Walters and Louis Frazier are:    

i. Louis Craig Frazier, born 16 January 1945, Wynne, Cross County, Arkansas; married Linda Diane Files.

ii. Anne Walters Frazier, born 02 June 1956, Memphis, Tennessee; married David Lashley.

Frances Walters Frazier died 23 February 2013, age 89, in Edmond, Oklahoma

Louis Frazier died 12 February 2014, age 92, in Edmond, Oklahoma.

They are buried in Hunter Cemetery, Hunter, Woodruff County, Arkansas.

Lora Frances Frazier, was born in Hunter, Arkansas on September 6, 1923 and passed away Saturday, February 23, 2013 in Edmond, OK. Frances was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, and mother. Her family and her home were her life and she was always present and available for their needs. Ballroom dancing was one of her favorite activities and she and her husband, Louis, enjoyed the different dances of the big band era. Mrs. Frazier graduated from Brinkley High School in Brinkley, AR and attended Arkansas State College where she was listed in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges 1943-1944. During her married life she lived in several locations because of her husband's career which she lovingly supported. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and was always active in her church wherever they resided. In Shreveport, where she lived for 40 years, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Maida Mickle Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women. She was an active member of Chapter B, PEO in Shreveport for many years and also an Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of Shreveport and a Paul Harris Fellow. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman and Helen Walters. Frances is survived by her husband of nearly 70 years, Louis Frazier, of Edmond, OK; her son, Craig Frazier of Hunter, AR; her daughter, Anne Lashley and husband David of Edmond, OK; and a grandson, Matthew Frazier of Watauga, TX. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Tuesday at Bob Neal & Sons Funeral Home in Brinkley. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 27th in Hunter, Arkansas.  A funeral service for Louis Marvin Frazier, Jr. will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19th at the Hunter United Methodist Church. Interment will be held at Hunter Cemetery in Hunter, Arkansas. Louis was born in Parkin, Arkansas on November 6, 1921 and passed away on February 12, 2014 in Edmond, OK after a short illness. At the time of his death he was residing in Edmond, OK. Mr. Frazier graduated from Parkin High School and Arkansas State College where he was Cadet Colonel of the ROTC Unit. He was listed in the Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges 1942-1943. Upon graduation, he was commissioned in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was recalled with his Reserve Unit and served two years during the Korean Conflict and retired from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after more than twenty-two years of service. He attended Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois where he received a Masters Degree in Hospital Administration. He was a career employee of the U.S. Veterans Administration where he served as a Physical Rehabilitation Therapist, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Administrator, Management Analyst and Hospital Administrator at several VA hospitals as a Service Director at the VA Central Office in Washington, D.C. In 1957 he was selected to conduct a pilot program in Management Analysis at Hines VA Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. At the end of the program, it was evaluated and instituted in other VA hospitals throughout the VA hospital systems. His last assignment was Director of the VA Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana where he served from 1971 until 1981. At the time of his retirement in Shreveport, he was awarded the Distinguished Career Award from the Administrator of Veterans Affairs. He was a member of the American Hospital Association and a life Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives. Mr. Frazier had a dedicated interest in management training and served as a preceptor to Management Analyst Trainees, Hospital Administrative Residents and Assistant Hospital Directors during his career with the Veterans Administration. He was a mentor to many people during his working life and later in his retirement. In 1973, he was chosen to be a participating member of a five person delegation from the Veterans Administration to a Hospital Administration Seminar in Karachi, Pakistan for members of the Central Treaty Organization. The seminar was sponsored by the Agency for International Development of the U.S. State Department. He was the author of an unpublished autobiography with two supplements. He had approximately twenty articles published in professional hospital journals and authored one book. He was a life long member of the Methodist Church and an active member of the Edmond First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shreveport where he served in several capacities, including member of the Church Council, Board of Trustees, Church Treasurer, Chairman of the Church Council and on several other committees. He was a member of the Maida Mickle Sunday School Class and the Methodist Men. Mr. Frazier was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of El Karubah Shrine in Shreveport. He was a member of the Marine Corps Association, American Legion, 40 & 8, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Military Officers Association of America. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Shreveport and served as a Board Member and President. He also served as Governor of Rotary District 6190. He was a Paul Harris Fellow and he and his wife were Major Donors to the Rotary Foundation. Mr. Frazier was preceded in death by his PARENTS Louis and Myrtle Frazier, wife Frances Frazier and sister Mary Adeline. He is survived by his son, Craig Frazier of Hunter, AR; Daughter, Anne Lashley and her husband David of Edmond, OK; Grandson Matt Frazier of Ft. Worth, TX and sister Jean F. Pode of Little Rock, AR.
