He was the son of Raymond Minter Burford and Ruby Lois Thompson.

Joe Burford married Dorothy Jean Cochran 10 August 1945, Cross County, Arkansas, daughter of Homer Priestly Cochran and Ethel Beatrice Hawks. She was born 03 April 1927 in Mansfield, Henry County,Tennessee.

Joe and Dorothy had two children that I know of - Myra Jo Burford, and Raymond Eugene Burford.

 He is buried in Vanndale Cemetery, Vanndale, Cross County, Arkansas, USA

Dorothy Cochran Burford died 10 May 2016, age 89.
