Hicks Ancestors - Generation 4 - John Henry 'Jack' Hicks

John Henry 'Jack' Hicks was born 13 February 1909, Tuckerman, Jackson County, Arkansas, and died 29 November 1986, age 77, Searcy, White County, Arkansas.

This is the only picture I have of Jack Hicks (center), with his sister Bess (left) and his wife 'Bill' (right). I believe this picture was taken in 1976.

Jack was the son of Pinkney Hicks and Ann Mirah VanWinkle.

Jack Hicks married Floy Elizabeth 'Bill' Castleberry 22 August 1939, Jackson County, Arkansas, daughter of David Jackson Castleberry and Margaret Elizabeth Harris. She was born 02 March 1912, Saffell, Lawrence County, Arkansas, and died 17 July 1998, age 86, Searcy, White County, Arkansas.

Children of Jack and Floy Hicks are:

i. Margaret Ann Hicks 1941-present, married Don Jerry Helms.

ii. Mary Elizabeth Hicks 1943-2018, married Donald Ray Birmingham

I don't have any pictures of their daughters, but I was able to find pictures of their sons-in-law

Floy Castleberry Hicks died 17 July 1998, age 86.

They are buried in Gracelawn Cemetery, Tuckerman, Jackson County, Arkansas.

Bessie Arabella Hicks was born 11 April 1903 in Arkansas, and died 01 October 1994 in Searcy, White County, Arkansas.

Bess was the daughter of Pinkney Hicks and Ann Mirah VanWinkle.

Bess Hicks married George Record Wheetley 30 November 1927 in Fayette County, Tennessee, son of John Walker Wheetley and Ama A Lassiter. He was born 10 November 1903 in Arkansas, and died 13 January 1967 in Judsonia, White County, Arkansas.

This is the only picture I have of Record Wheetley -- he is the boy in the back. The others are his sister Pearl, brother Kenneth, and baby sister Doris.

Violet Mae Hicks was born 02 March 1899, Arkansas, and died 02 June 1872, Judsonia, White County, Arkansas. 

I thought sure I had a picture of Violet, but if I do I can't find it right now.

Violet was the daughter of Pinkney Hicks and Ann Mirah VanWinkle.

Violet Hicks married Romeo Elmer 'Rom' Miller 30 September 1917 in White County, Arkansas, son of Elberry W Miller and Sarah C Petty. He was born 08 September 1899 and died 31 March 1973.

I don't have a picture of Rom Miller.

Rom Miller died 31 March 1973, age 73.

Herbert Hicks was born 06 August 1896, Independence County, Arkansas, and died 30 May 1967, Jackson County, Arkansas.

Herbert was the son of Pinkney Hicks and Ann Mirah Van Winkle.

Herbert Hicks married Willie Pearl Roaseau 30 November 1919, White County, Arkansas, daughter of James Thomas Roaseau and Julia Emma Crenshaw. She was born 11 January 1900, White County, Arkansas, and died 09 January 1977, Jackson County, Arkansas.

Hicks Ancestors - Generation 4 - Mary Viola Hicks

Mary Viola 'Ola' Hicks was born 07 August 1890 in Hardin County, Tennessee, and died February 1937.

This is the only picture I have of Ola Hicks Ramelow. I'm going to assume these are her first three children - Edna, Hazel, and Edward.

Ola was the daughter of David Anderson Hicks and Belle Hindman.

Mary Viola Hicks married Edward Heinrich Ramelow 30 January 1910, Pulaski County, Arkansas, son of Maria Ramelowa. He was born 09 January 1873 in Stralsund, Germany, and died 02 March 1955 in Shelby County, Tennessee. (In the family records, this name was spelled and pronounced ROMALOW, but in all the official documents I can find it is Ramelow.)

I don't have any pictures of Edward Ramelow.

I cannot find any of them on FindAGrave except Edna.

Her FindAGrave memorial does not give any information about her husband or any parents or siblings.

There is more than one Joseph P. Buckman on FindAGrave, but I think this one might be Edna's husband because the inscription wording is an exact match -- "FAITHFUL CHRISTIAN, LOVING WIFE AND MOTHER" and "FAITHFUL CHRISTIAN, LOVING HUSBAND AND FATHER" -- even the fonts match. He is buried in Bassett Cemetery,

Ulysses Fillmore Hicks was born 30 December 1886 in Shiloh, Hardin County, Tennessee, and died 03 February 1965 in Berrien County, Michigan. 

Ulysses was the youngest son of John Henry Hicks and Malisa Burns Hicks.

Ulysses Hicks married Bertha Ann 'Annie' Arnold 22 February 1910 in Independence County, Arkansas, daughter of John Henry Arnold and Minerva Adaline Carter. She was born 25 February 1893 in Winona, Shannon County, Missouri, and died 06 August 1972 in Berrien County, Michigan.

Felix Hallmark Hicks was born 09 February 1881, Hardin County, Tennessee, and died 23 July 1932, Arlington, Shelby County, Tennessee.

Felix was the son of John Henry Hicks and Malisa Burns Hicks.

Felix Hicks married Ida Lenora Sandefur 01 September 1901 in Floral, Independence County, Arkansas, daughter of  Leonard Henry Sandefur and Sarah Jane McDoniel. She was born 22 July 1881 in Floral, Arkansas, and died 01 June 1965 in Fayette County, Tennessee.
