Gracie Bell Webb was the wife of John Davidson Arnold (brother of my great-grandmother Annie Arnold Hicks).

Ruby Barnett is the oldest child of Ulysses and Annie Hicks.

Sylvia Arnold Dye was the daughter of Marlie Arnold (brother of Annie Hicks). She was a cousin of my grandmother Cleffie Hicks Burford. They were born 3 months apart, in 1917. I have several photos of the two of them together.

Dorothy Mae Arnold (Rapert) (Lafkin) was the daughter of Uncle Marlie and Aunt Birdie Arnold. (Marlie was a brother of my great-grandmother Annie Arnold Hicks.)

1984 or 1985 was the last year that the Carter/Arnold reunion was held at Pine Grove Cemetery. I think they have been having it at the public park in Heber Springs (Arkansas) since then.

The beginning

 

I found this album page I had made a year or two ago, showing the common ancestors of the Carter and Arnold families. Ned Jonas Carter married Melinda Clingan and had four children -  Martha, Wes, Mary Elizabeth, and Margaret. I don't have a picture of Melinda. Ned's second wife was Jane Evans. She had two children from a previous marriage - Joe and Lizzie. Ned and Jane had eight children - Paralee, Adaline, Sarah Caroline, Rebecca, Matilda, John, George, and Ellen. 

Adaline Carter married John Henry Arnold, and that is the link between the Carter and Arnold families.

Alvis Jackson is the son of Etta Arnold Jackson. Etta was the sister of my great-grandmother Annie Hicks.

Ned Carter was the son of John Martin Carter. John was the brother of Annie Hicks.

Evalee is a daughter of Annie Hicks -- sister of my grandmother Cleffie Burford -- and Charles is her husband. Verlie is the daughter of George Arnold, the brother of Annie Hicks.

Elinor is the wife of Alvis Jackson.

Top left - Ruby, Irene, Evalee, and Bernice are daughters of Ulys & Annie Arnold Hicks. Oma Dell is Ruby's daughter.

Top right - Verlie Arnold Garrett is one of "Uncle George's girls" and Ed Garrett was her husband. Her sister Mildred was married to Ed's brother Everett... (Well, way back in the day, Verlie was married to Everett first. They had a child, and she was expecting their second child when they divorced and she married Everett's brother Ed. And then Mildred married Everett.) Verlie had four children who lived, and twin boys who died at birth in 1948. Her four children are Wes, Leon, Youl Glenn (I don't know if he's called Youl or Glenn), and Verletta. Only Verletta is still living. Verlie is still living and celebrated her 100th birthday in May of 2021.

Bottom left - Ruby, Irene, Cleffie, Evalee, and Bernice are 5 of 6 daughters of my great-grandparents Ulysses & Annie Arnold Hicks. Cleffie is my grandmother. The sixth sister is Vernell, who was not at the reunion in 1983. (She lived in California, much farther away than the rest of the sisters who lived in Arkansas, Missouri, and Michigan at the time.)

Bottom right - I don't know the name of this man. Etta Carter Derryberry had four sons - Stanley, Danny, James, and Joseph. She also had 6 daughters. I don't know which one of her sons this is. Etta was a first cousin to my great-grandmother Annie Hicks.
