Arnold Ancestors - Generation 4 - Ulysses Olan Hicks, Part One

Ulysses Olan Hicks was born 03 November 1927, in Judsonia, White County, Arkansas. 

Olan was the 8th child of Ulysses and Annie Arnold Hicks (my great-grandparents)

Olan's son Chuck, who was a graphic designer, created this ad for a local Jeweler some time in the 1980s. That's Olan in the picture.

Olan was a musician (like everyone else in the family)

Here's a little anecdote from Olan's childhood, written by his sister Bernice -

When Olan was a young boy, possibly 10 years old, a preacher at the local Church of Christ in Judsonia, Arkansas had a question and answer contest with the young kids, on the Bible. Olan won and his prize was a nice Bible.  The preacher was William Medeares, a graduate of Harding College in Searcy, Arkansas.  The last night he asked Olan to dismiss the class and he did it as though he had been doing it all his life.
