(This seems like an odd setting to me, but I'm not sure why. It seems to have been taken in a studio -- because of the painted background. But the table and back-cloth... It seems like one of those "it seemed like a good idea at the time" things. Papa Hicks was a photographer, so maybe he was just trying things out.)

Not rightly sure I recognize all of these folks - Jack and Ruby and Oma Dell, Cleffie and Lester, Irene and Doc and June(?), Morris, Bob, Ronnie... Maybe Sylvia and Delbert, Noma and Garland... That's everybody but the couple on the left...

This may have been the same picnic as in the photo above.

The car belonged to Tom Williams. Tom was a cousin, the son of Ulys' sister 'Aunt Tot'. Luther Sparcer and Violet Mobley were not related to our family -- I assume they were friends of Tom or Ruby.

I don't know if it's true or not, but I have heard that the reason they only had one child was because after witnessing Ruby going through childbirth, he didn't want her to ever have to experience that kind of pain again.
