Burford Ancestors - Generation 4 - Killough Marvin Burford

Killough Marvin Burford was born 08 Dec 1907 in Bone Gap, Edwards County, Illinois

This is the only picture I have of Killough.

He was the 5th child of Alexander and Lora Gibson Burford

Killough married Norma Louise Lyon 16 December 1938 in Pulaski County, Arkansas, daughter of Theodore Roosevelt Lyon and Nannie Mae Cullum. She was born 11 July 1913, and died 30 November 1994.

Notes for KILLOUGH MARVIN BURFORD: Louise was in the hospital and after visiting her, Killough went home for the night. Two very kind neighbor ladies had gone into Killough's house to straighten things up and make sure the house was tidy for Killough. The weather was cool and there was a window open a little bit, so they closed that window not knowing that Killough left it open to allow ventilation for a heater they had in the house and used for heat. When Killough came home he didn't notice the window was closed and he went to bed. His body was found near the telephone so it appears that he had awakened and tried to get to the phone but didn't make it in time. -- Wathada Burford Thomas, niece of Killough and daughter of Lester Burford

CHILD of KILLOUGH BURFORD and LOUISE LYON is:

i. Marvin Ted Burford, born 17 February 1942, Kansas; died 07 February 1973, Madera County, California.

Burford Ancestors - Generation 4 - George Alexander Burford quandary

Okay, first -- a conundrum. I don't remember if I labeled this picture or if someone else did. But I'm looking at the third person from the left ("George") and comparing it to other pictures I have of George -- and I'm convinced it's not George after all. The hairline and the ears are not right. The more I look at pictures and compare, the more I think it's either Bernice or Neil. The one labeled "Bernice" might be Neil...

compare...

This picture is (L-R) Neil, Lester, Bernice, David, and George. (David is Raymond's son.) This one I know is correct.
Compare this one to the one above. Neil and Bernice are taller than George. George's hairline is straight. Neil and Bernice's ears stick out on the sides...

Can any of my Burford folks tell me for sure?

Here are some more pictures of George:

NOTES:

[All information about Clarence and Hazel (Burford) Johnson was provided by Lois June Baird Johnson, widow of Howard Johnson.]

-- Hazel was a school teacher. She had either retired from teaching or just stopped teaching. When World War II started, she was asked to return to teaching and she did.

-- When June and Howard were dating, he would get her mother and take her over to visit his mother. Hazel told June's mother that "Garreth was the youngest, but Howard is my baby."

-- Hazel was walking down the dirt road carrying Howard. Somehow a little branch hit Howard's head. Hazel didn't say anything because she thought that if she didn't, Howard might not be upset and cry about it. In a little bit, Howard said, "B'ess his heart."

-- Clarence went to school and learned telegraphy. When he finished, they sent him somewhere out west and he was so lonely that he came back and started working as a bar tender. Then later he worked for the Highway Department.
