Bertha Lee Arnold was born 05 May 1939, Searcy, White County, Arkansas.

She was the daughter of John Davidson Arnold and Gracie Webb Arnold.

Bertha Lee Arnold married (1) Gerald Lacy.   

CHILD OF BERTHA ARNOLD AND GERALD LACY IS:

Bertha Lee and Gerald Lacy divorced.

Bertha Lee Arnold married (2) Bob Hager 

16 December 1980 in Pryor, Oklahoma.

Apparently, Bertha Lee is still living in Wilburn, Arkansas. Her voter registration record says she is single, although I cannot find any record of her husband's death -- so possibly divorced. You're not going to believe this, but I found Bertha Lee on Facebook! The picture above is the only picture on her page. When I looked at her friends list, however, I found a bunch of our relatives -- children and grandchildren of John and Gracie's children (Burnis, Alene, Maxine, Lloyd, Henry, and Christine). I also found Bertha Lee's daughter's Facebook page but it did not have a picture of her.

Social media is a two-edged sword. On the one hand, it's a great way to stalk -- er, find -- people. On the other hand, I believe it will be a major factor in the downfall of civilization and the extinction of human life on this planet. (IMHO, don'tcha know.)

Arnold Ancestors - Generation 4 - Christine Ellen Delena Arnold

Christene Ellen Delina Arnold was born 26 March 1933, in Batesville, Arkansas

She was a daughter of John Davidson Arnold and Gracie Webb Arnold

John Davidson Arnold was a brother of my great-grandmother Annie Arnold Hicks.

Christene Arnold married Harlan Henry Riggs 28 April 1951.  

He was born 18 Jan 1921 and died 06 March 1984 (aged 63). He was buried in Saint Pauls Lutheran Church Cemetery, Rehburg, Washington County, Texas. (Christene and Harlan were divorced.)

Christine Ellen Delana Lucas the daughter of John and Gracie Webb Arnold was born in Batesville, Arkansas on March 26, 1933 and passed away at White County Medical Center in Searcy, Arkansas on December 18, 2005 at the age of 72 years. She was a retired nurse's aide having worked at Geriatrics Nursing Home in Heber Springs. She attended the Pleasant Ridge Union Church and enjoyed cooking and reading, helping people and going to church. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Gracie Arnold four brothers Burton Arnold, Burnis Arnold, Bill Arnold and Henry Arnold and a sister Alene Sargent. Survivors are a daughter Kathy Riggs Altom and husband Odell of Tumbling Shoals, a son Larry Riggs of Tumbling Shoals, a daughter Denise Riggs Mann and husband Paul of Tumbling Shoals, two sisters Maxine Cobb of Houston, Texas and Bertha Hagar of Wilburn. Four grandchildren Jeff Altom, Lisa Altom Rhodes, Erin Mann and Jessi Mann, Six Great Grandchildren Madison Altom, Lara Altom, Sara Rhodes Williams, Michelle Rhodes Graham, Hannah Rhodes and Lexie Rhodes. Mrs. Lucas is also survived by nieces and nephews besides other relatives and many friends. 

Arnold Ancestors - Generation 4 - Lloyd Aaron Arnold and John Henry Arnold

Unfortunately, I do not have any pictures of Uncle John and Aunt Gracie's next two children - Lloyd (called "Bill") and John Henry (called "Henry") --

Lloyd Aaron Arnold was born 08 May 1927 in Clarksville, Johnson County, Arkansas.

Lloyd Arnold married Janice Olieda Duncan 08 October 1951, daughter of Denver and Rosetta Duncan. She was born 02 February 1935.

John Henry Arnold was born 28 October 1929, in Banner, Cleburne County, Arkansas.

John Arnold married Rosalie Lomica 01 December 1954 in Houston, Harris County, Texas, daughter of Frank Lomica and Albina Haisler. She was born 01 December 1932 in Caldwell, Burlison County, Texas.

ROSALIE ANNIE LOMICA ARNOLD OBITUARY

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandma, great great grandmother, and aunt. Rosalie Annie Arnold, of Pasadena, Texas passed peacefully April 2, 2023, at home surrounded by family. The greatest joys in her life were her family and her faith. Holidays were always a family affair with generations of family visiting, and a yard full of children playing. She was born to Frank and Albina Lomica December 1, 1932, in Caldwell, TX. She graduated with the class of 1950 at Santa Fe High School. She married in 1954 to her sweetheart John Henry Arnold. They lived in Pasadena, TX and raised a family. She was predeceased by parents Frank and Albina Lomica, Brother Frank Lomica Jr., Husband Henry Arnold, Son and Daughter-in-law Donald and Debbie Arnold, Son-in-law John Ramsey, and Granddaughter Melissa Ramsey. She is survived by Son Ronald Arnold, Daughters Suzanne Allee, Jeanette Ramsey, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A visitation for Rosalie will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, TX 77505. Arnold Ancestors - Generation 4 - Maxine Clova Arnold

Maxine Clova Arnold was born 12 December 1924 in Floral, Independence County, Arkansas

This is the only picture I have of Maxine Arnold.

She was a daughter of John Davidson Arnold and Gracie Belle Webb Arnold.

(I don't have any young pictures of Aunt Gracie, nor any older pictures of Uncle John Arnold.

Here's a picture of Aunt Gracie with Ruby Hicks Barnett and Sylvia Arnold Dye (cousins).

This was taken at the annual Carter/Arnold reunion in 1983.

Maxine Clova Arnold married Carrol Rushen Cobb, Jr. 30 April 1949 in Houston, Harris County, Texas. They had three children - Dale Glynn, Teresa Ann, and John Douglas. 

I don't have pictures of any of them.

Maxine died 26 May 2011 (age 86) in Pasadena, Harris County, Texas

She was buried in Magness Cemetery, Heber Springs, Cleburne County, Arkansas

OBITUARY

Maxine Clova Cobb, age 86, of Pasadena, Texas, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2011. Born in Floral, Arkansas, on December 12, 1924, she was the daughter of the late John D. Arnold and Gracie Bell Webb Arnold. Mrs. Cobb was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. Left to cherish beautiful memories are her daughter, Teresa Rye and husband, James, of Pasadena, Texas; two sons, Dale Cobb and wife, Denell, of Houston, Texas, and John Cobb and wife, Jackie, of College Station, Texas; one sister, Bertha Hagar of Hiram; ten grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Mrs. Cobb is also survived by other relatives and her many friends. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 29, at Olmstead Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 30, at Pleasant Ridge Union Church at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Odell Altom officiating. Arnold Ancestors - Generation 4 - Alene Adaline Arnold

Alene Adaline Arnold was born 10 September 1922 in Batesville, Independence County, Arkansas.

Alene was the daughter of John Davidson Arnold and Gracie Belle Webb.

I do not have pictures of Alene Arnold, nor either of her husbands, nor any of her children.

Alene Arnold married (1) Grover Laymon Ballard 04 April 1945 in White County, Arkansas.

Alene and Grover Ballard had one child - Robert Grover Ballard.  

(Robert Grover Ballard later changed his name to Robert Ballard Sargent.)

Alene and Grover Ballard divorced 16 October 1947 in White County, Arkansas.

Grover Ballard died 27 January 1992 in Benton Harbor, Berrien County, Michigan.

Grover was buried in Crystal Springs Cemetery Benton Harbor, Berrien County, Michigan 

(He had apparently married Nina Mabel Ballard.)

Alene Arnold married (2) Charles Edward Sargent Jr. 05 August 1950 in Clark County, Indiana.

Alene and Charles had two children - Sharon and Anita.

Alene and Charles Sargent divorced 03 May 1971 in Harris County, Texas.

Charles Sargent died in 1987.

Charles was buried in New Vienna IOOF Cemetery New Vienna, Clinton County, Ohio.

Alene Adaline Arnold died 15 August 1999 in Harris County, Texas.

She is buried in Magness Cemetery, Heber Springs, Cleburne County, Arkansas.

Intermission

 Departing from the schedule again to tell a little story that really begs to be shared...

The year, 1991. The location, my house. The cast: Cleffie, Wathada, Oma Dell, and me. 

The plot -- We didn't exactly plan to have a PJ party. The three of them were on a road trip. Wathada flew from California to Michigan to pick up Cleffie. They rented a car and drove to Arkansas to pick up Oma Dell. Then they headed to Alabama to visit me. Then... a funny thing happened. 

Remember that old song "That's the night that the lights went out in Georgia" ...  Well, we weren't in Georgia, but the lights definitely went out. My house was out in the country, no street lights. Our security light went out, too. So we were in pitch darkness. Then somebody suggested we could use the lights on our cameras. Flashbulbs, that is. (Remember, this was long before digital photography and smart phones.) So we had light... one split second at a time. Haha! Now it's a party!!

Arnold Ancestors - Generation 4 - Burnis Alfred Arnold

Burnis Arnold was born 23 August 1920, Pangburn, Arkansas

Well, I don't have a single picture of Burnis Arnold.

He was the son of John Davidson Arnold and Gracie Webb Arnold. 

 

I don't have a picture of John and Gracie together. I don't have any pictures of Aunt Gracie when she was young, and I don't have any pictures of Uncle John Arnold when he was older.

John was the third child of John Henry Arnold and Adaline Carter Arnold.

Burnis Arnold married Fay Ellen Nash.

I don't have any pictures of Fay Ellen Nash.

Burnis and Fay Ellen had five children: Jeannie Lee, Susan Faye, David Allen, Janice Maxine, and Jerry Keith. (I don't have pictures of any of them.)

Burnis Alfred Arnold died 26 September 1969, in Cleburne County, Arkansas,

Burnis was just 49 years old when he died, so I'm assuming his wife would have re-married. I don't have any information about her or their children.

Arnold Ancestors - Generation 4 - Burton David Arnold

 Burton David Arnold was born 17 Jun 1918 Banner, Cleburne County, Arkansas.

Burton was the first child of John Arnold and Gracie Webb Arnold. 

John Arnold was a brother of my great-grandmother Annie Arnold Hicks.

This is a photo of Irene Hicks holding Burton. As far as I know, this is the only photo that exists of Burton David Arnold.

Burton David Arnold died at age 1 year, 6 months, from diphtheria.
